Introducing Team MJC’s London Food Crawl
Team MJC are setting out to celebrate the awesomeness of food and we want to share it with our community. First stop on the London food crawl…Bermondsey! Whether it’s a bowl of noodles from a little local hidden gem or a popular destination in the centre of town, you’ll find it all here.
Our London food crawl blog series will give you the heads-up on some of the best eateries in the city. On our travels, we’ll be checking out places in the City of London, Whitechapel, Borough, South Bank, Bankside, Waterloo, Peckham, Camberwell, New Cross, Tower Bridge, Poplar, Rotherhithe, Wapping, Camden, Regent’s Park, Baker Street, Camden Town, Islington and much more!
We’re really inspired by the things we eat when we’re travelling around town doing plumbing, gas and heating works. The South London neighbourhood of Bermondsey is very dear to our hearts, as it’s right on our doorstep, with fabulous bars, cafés and bistros.
The street-food markets are amazing too. You’ve got Druid Street Market and Maltby Street Market on the corner of Ropewalk. We’re always spoilt for choice – good old-fashioned pub nosh, Spanish tapas, Thai Fusion, Greek, African, West-Indian…and the list just goes on and on!
We love all food, so it’s hard to choose our favourites, but I personally have a soft spot for Thai though! Hmm…Penang curry filled with big juicy prawns, anyone? 😊
Where to Eat Breakfast
I usually start at The Table Cafe, a cool eatery, located on Southwark Street. They’ve got a fab breakfast and brunch menu. I love their pancakes, but I sometimes go for their full veggie breakfast. It really hits the spot and sets you up for the day. If you’re after a decent vegetarian full English, I would highly recommend this!

Where to Eat Lunch
For lunch, the team usually head on down to Village East, right in the heart of Bermondsey. For all you tourists out there, that’s about 10 minutes from London Bridge station.
It has an open kitchen, which is lovely, and the interior is stunning. Leather booths, dark wood flooring…oh, and the staff are friendly and the food is to die for! They’ve got an ample brunch/lunch menu…yes, pancakes too! Lol
Check out the curried monkish dish they were showcasing a few weeks ago…yummy scrummy! 😊

I usually make a beeline for their superfood and herb salad, but you could also go for their smoked chicken salad, hot chicken wings, cheeseburger, or a bit of steak. There’s even more on the menu, with an irresistible selection of deserts. The grub they serve here will certainly keep your hunger at bay, and the taste will have you coming back for more.
